Just wondering as I'm considering a move. Currently only spending around 14% of take home pay on a capital repayment and looking to double it to 28%. We have no other debts, so to me this seems easily manageable. Obviously everyone's circumstances will be different, I was just curious really. Some of my family and friends seem to think it's crazy, but they bought their houses for 2 Bob in the middle ages smile and have mortgages of 50p!

Depends on the month and time offshore etc. But I would say about 35% of my basic salary. Sounds a lot when I work it out like that.

Depending on the month, 40-50%.

But I'm just less than a year into my first home and single, so expected to be reasonably high.

Surely it's a meaningless figure? Someone who's paying 50% a month out of £4000 a month is left with £2k whereas someone paying 10% out of 1000 a month is left with £900?

We rent our home, rental is about 7% of my income.

We own a few properties that are rented out, and their income covers that 7% for our rental as well as their repayment loans so all told 0%
