I am doing the pat in a office kitchen and I have a microwave with a touch pad control. Plugged into my seaward 100, I get a low load as I can't turn it on with it unplugged. I tried with the door open.
Is this one for visual only, or is there something else to try?

Lol guys. If I'd have said pat testing, someone would have complained!
Anyone in the know?

Not helpful I know - but I ran into this same problem when testing monitors.

When I watched the "pros' do monitors, they simply did a visual check...

Have you tried a simple earth leakage test on the microwave?

There will still be a transformer in circuit.

Of course if it's one of the new Panasonics (and others??) that use "inverter technology" there won't be any HV transformer to test anyway.

As far as I'm concerned a microwave isn't portable so doesn't need a PAT test. There's no reason to routinely move one, by all means do a visual check for your own peace of mind though.

you can move it so its portable --- think there's some kind of leak test required for microwaves

Does it have a 'double insulated' symbol on it? If i remember correctly, its just a visual if it has one.

You can move most things if you put your mind to it. If there's a reasonable expectation that it may be moved then it needs a test. We don't test our microwaves as we don't expect them to be moved.

There is a leakage test. Tester is about £30 from memory.

I thought if it is less that 18kg and has a plug on it, it needs testing, or inspection.
I gave it a visual but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.

With my Seaward Europa tester I can test the appliance through an adjacent power socket. Can't you do this with yours?
