Generator for a live band?!
Discussion
Not sure if anyone has experience of this type of thing but I've run out of ideas and Google type searches!
I'm organising a party for the end of the month where I hope to have a couple of live bands playing. The only power source is a nearby cottage which has incredibly feeble/old/dodgy electrics. They have trouble if the kettle is turned on at the same time as the iron, the fuse box keeps tripping etc.
Rather than running the risk of setting fire to my friends house, or more importantly I would like to avoid having an acapella cover band I'm looking to rent a generator. What kind of power would I need? I know enough about electrics to know that I shouldn't guess!

My knowledge on this is very limited but we used to use petrol generators to power a strip of 230V plugs a few years ago. Can't remember what they were powering, but they were pretty meaty appliances. Plus, this is PH, so anything with an engine is bound to come up in any conversation.
Thanks for the replies.
I'm not sure of power ratings, we're meeting the bands tomorrow to discuss their needs. They will be supplying their own amps etc, standard stuff, a 'normal' house should be able to cope I would imagine. We won't be using much if any lighting as we've agreed with the neighbours to finish the music before darkness falls to keep the peace, so to speak.

Just a case of adding up the requirements and using the old WVI rule.
When i see to do off site marketing (read bloody big tent or winnie at a festival or event) the roadies always worked it out then doubled it.
You can Rent some pretty good units from Gibbs and dandy or brandon etc.
