My 32 amp ring main started tripping for no reason. Unplugged everything and it still tripped. I have swapped it with the 40 amp next to it and all is fine on both circuits. However the lights have started flickering. Any ideas as to the cause much appreciated.

Check all connections in your fusebox are tight for a kick off, make sure you use an insulated screwdriver and/or that everything is turned off, even with the main switch in the off position the bottom side is still live.
I wouldn't leave your sockets on the 40A MCB, if there is a fault changing it for a larger MCB is not curing it, its potentially dangerous.
Have you been drilling any walls, putting pictures up ect, anything that could have caught a cable?
Do you have an RCD split consumer unit/fuse box?
