A friend who has a property let out, due to personal circumstances. Last tenants, prior to my involvement did a fair bit of damage, little bits and bobs all over the house.

When they moved she didn’t really take a full inventory, anyways, she decides to put all the work through her insurance. Got 3 quotes, sent to insurers, claims assessor comes out, all well and good, get the offer through from the insurers.

They have decided to “group” the bits of work, so basically each group require the excess to be paid. It seems that they have decided that individual areas within the property are all separate claims.

Can anyone help with how she (I) should try and respond?

All the items claimed are legitimate, which the assessor confirmed.

My argument having no looked fully at the docs yet, are that she has only submitted one claim, and should only attract one excess payment.

A Policy excess will apply to 'each and every loss' as per the Policy Wording. If it can be shown that 'damage' is as a result of a single incident a single excess will apply, however, in this type of situation it may not be easy to prove, it depends on what type of 'damage' we are talking about, and whether there is any way of showing that any of it occurred as a result of a single incident I am afraid.

GTS Dave,

thanks for your input. looking at it now, they can all be viewed as seperate incidents.
