I am going to attempt to wall mount my 42" plasma this evening and was wondering if there's any hints and tips!

I have the following bracket: http://www.theplasmacentre.com/wall-brackets/tv-wa...

It's a concrete (I think - it's solid anyway, not stud or plasterboard) above the fireplace.

I am going to get one of those testers to check for pipes and wires, and a spirit level to make sure it's level!

Anything else - any special types of bolts etc?

The bracket will at some point hold a slightly larger (maybe 50") tv but no larger than that.

Thanks for any help!

I always wondered why people want to mount their TVs on a wall as when they sit down they'll have to look up at it rather than straight ahead.

Yes get a spirit level as the one on the bracket is pants.

If the wall is solid then you should have no issues. As it is a 'moving' bracket you need to take a bit more care to get a good fixing. I would use 8mm coach screws and the appropriate plugs, you'll need a 10mm drill and a socket to tighten them up. Some will probably come with the bracket but they are often only 50mm long, I would go 75mm/3" to get a really good fixing. Use 6 fixing points for extra safeness.

Lay the TV face down on the floor and offer the bracket up, you can then take a measurement to the wall plate so you get the TV at the correct height.

Make sure the bracket does not cover the input connections on the back of the TV.

Physically hang on the bracket yourself before you fit the TV, if it will take your weight it will take a TV.

Wow 80 notes! I got the cantilever for half that price. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

I guess price + quality is peace of mind. Mine has been up best part of 2 months with no problem if anything i was more worried with the screws that go into the tv. I used the 6 bolts that came with the bracket and an extra 2 of my own. It was fixed at roughly around the 1 meter mark for viewing pleasure.

This. Never seen one yet that was on a wall AND at the right height - eye level.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Unfortunately, due to the shape of the room and budget constraints, I have no choice.

I will be doing some major work to the room in about 6-12 months which will knock a wall through and remove the fireplace surround which will mean i can reposition the tv at a lower level. But it just looked messy on a stand sitting in a random place.

I paid £15 for the mount - hotukdeals.com misprice!

Anyway the TV is now mounted, and I was able to do a few chin-ups from the arm so I should hope it's nice and secure - time will tell!

Ha, it's a 42" plasma which has been left here by a friend who's moved back in with parents! So I have the TV for as long as it takes him to get back on his feet.
