Driveway costs
Discussion
What is the normal price for a driveway?
Dropping the kerb, removal of all remnants of the garden, block paving all over the front and then up the side of the house as it is an end terraced house.
I have been quoted £3200 which seems right but I do not want to give the go ahead if this is incorrect.

Seems a fair kind of price if my neighbours drive is anything to go by , they fit 2 cars comfortably on their drive & paid around the 3k mark ,Dropping the kerb, removal of all remnants of the garden, block paving all over the front and then up the side of the house as it is an end terraced house.

Ask to see some previous work addresses , if they are any good they will not mind , last thing you want is a drive that goes all curvy

They have done the rest of the street really so I know the quality, but the darn neighbours are all out or having friends round so do not want to disturb them tonight, and to be fair once done I could fit 3 cars on it.Ask to see some previous work addresses , if they are any good they will not mind , last thing you want is a drive that goes all curvy
I will speak to next door in the morning to see what they paid as it is roughly the same size. As I want this done as soon as they (The Company) can do it. Some had block paving and some had tarmac.
Thanks All

Did you get competitive quotes?
Because presumably the company is one of that small number authorised to do a dropped kerb by your LA? I'd always assumed that meant you paid through the nose.
This. Think you need permissions to do it & something like a silly amount of Pub liability cover.Because presumably the company is one of that small number authorised to do a dropped kerb by your LA? I'd always assumed that meant you paid through the nose.
The price seems fair enough/good if the above is legit.
A few years ago I was looking to get a driveway done. I saw a professional company a few streets away doing a great job (proper hardcore base/edging etc). They had their "A" board on the street, and the next thing I noticed around 6 driveways all getting done over the following month. It later transpired that a bunch of Irish "travellers" had been knocking on doors, claiming to be the aforementioned company and offering great deals for cash.
Fast forward a few months and the driveways done by the "travellers" are all crumbling at the edges, sinking and with weeds growing through the joints!
It really pays to get a reputable company - have a look at a great website called paving expert to get an idea of how it should be done so you know if they are cutting corners.

Hi All,
Looks like I was wrong, the price is to do everything except the dropped kerb that bit is separate and has to be done by the LA registered contractor.
Checked with the neighbours and they paid a similar amount from the same company so I am good to go and it is getting started tomorrow

Also it is worth bearing in mind that just because the visible part looks good that doesnt mean what is underneath is any good and it takes a couple of weeks for the poor quality to show.
