Im converting a long piano style seat into a planter for tomato plants in my conservatory.

Im planning on cutting a sheet of plastic I have to shape and silicone the joints in the corners if needs be.

Will dry silicone leak chemicals into soil if it gets into contact with it? If so can you get specialty silicone for this kind of job, like fish tank silicone for example?

Cheers!

ETA - Would polythene be suitable to line a 'raised bed' with? If not any tips?

Don't know, but you'll need to make drainage somewhere so how about not sealing the corners?

Silcone is pretty inert/safe, but it's not the best for sticking plastics.

Why cut and joint?

Just push it into the corners, the soil/compost will weigh it down. You'll need drainage holes as mentioned, if you don't control where they are the wood will start to rot before long and the whole thing will fall to bits.

I think Ive changed my plan to just getting a bit sheet of polythene, and lining it with that. Ill go to B+Q, see if you have any suitable.

Save the hassle of cutting and joining. I was trying to make do with what I had.

Cheers.
