Hi all, I'm on the lookout for a new electric tile cutter and have seen these dry cutters (they look like a circular saw) and wondered if they're any good?

Fancy a change from the wet cutters!

TBH i find they are not as good as the table wet cutters.

You can be more precise with the cut.

Someone i know has one, but he says that he prefers the table.

Also, with that one you linked to, its easy to overcut if you are not careful.

We use a cheapo dry table top cutter. Wouldn't want to use that skill saw type you linked to.

For straight cuts then I'd use a normal dry cutter (as in the old fashioned job) but for curves etc I'd use a wet cutter.

That saw thing I've never tried - would be interesting to see how it goes.

Ive gone on to a 115mm grinder with a good quality porcelain blade, find I can be very accurate with it but took some practice. Its less mess than a wet cutter in some ways too.

Cheers guys, well I've bought said item above and will report back it's usability tomorrow! All I've used before is wet cutters (table top ones) so I'll let you all know my thoughts.

Well it's arrived and first impressions are quite good. It cuts through without problem and seems to have good power (1100 watts). The only problem seems to be holding the thing straight. You need 2 hands (or a strong wrist!) as with the power it wants to vier offline. Not a problem if you use the guide, but without it is quite tricky.

All in all, I'm quite happy with it for that price!

So how do you hold the tile?

I straddled it across 2 tiles with a gap in the middle and stood on it with my left foot.

Let's face it. It's a mini skill saw with a diamond cutting wheel. Not really very practical for using as a tile cutter. wink
