So, further to my other post about build costs of the patio, we're working on some sizings and what to allow as we were concerned we'd not allowed enough space.

What is generally considered "enough" distance from a BBQ to a table and chairs? What I want to avoid is someone sitting next to the BBQ and melting due to the heat. We've got about a couple of meters at present, is that enough?

We have another option to "notch" the BBQ into a corner to maintain the patio space. It'll still be close by the heat would be in a corner so well away from directly behind anyone.

I have a brick built BBQ over by the herb garden but as that's 20 odd feet from the seating area I use a portable BBQ and sit it 3ft or so from the seats so that I can sit down and do the BBQ........

At the end of the day the heat won't melt everyone etc and if it's a hot day it won't make much difference, whilst if it's a much cooler day (say November) then you'll appreciate the heat.

Oh, are the seats plastic, concrete or wood?

The seats are teak, as is the table, which seats 8 people. Sale bargain, got to love it :-)

Well I keep the portable BBQs next to the wooden "picnic" bench we have, so I should imagine what you have in mind would be fine.

And yes, there are some bargains to be had out there!

More the smoke I'd be thinking about. Is there a prevailing wind at your gaff?

No wind to worry about really as the garden has a massive beech hedge on one side and loads of tall shrubs on the other, so it's pretty sheltered. the BBQ will be up near the hedge ( but allowing enough not to set it on fire!)

This is my setup, use real charcoal on the BBQ, and also stack it with wood in the evening to use as a firepit, no issues with heat or sparks
