Got to be a contender for Most Boring Thread of the Day, this has...

I'm after a small desk fan which will fit between the shelves in the bookshelf in my bedroom (up to, say, 9" blade diameter) and which actally generates a useful amount of air movement rather than just a lot of racket. Any recommendations?

I wasted a hard-earned tenner on a 9" fan a few years ago, which fits nicely on the shelf but produces all the airflow of a sparrow's dying breath. Annoyingly, I do have a 12" Argos own-brand one which actually works very well - it has narrow blades as opposed to the usual wide ones - but it won't fit into the bookshelf...

(Note: I've dismissed the Dyson air multiplier things on the grounds of cost (£200!!!). I do already have a small aircon unit which does work very well, but it makes too much noise to sleep through and consumes close to a kilowatt of power!)

How about a ceiling fan instead? Appreciate that it'll break the budget, but I doubt you'd regret the purchase.

Installed this today in the office:

And think it's the bees knees. Helps the AC out considerably.
