Hi Gents

I have a bit of an issue with my house. I have moved in but the TV aerial doesn't appear to be working.

I went into the loft and it has a single cable output which then comes out of the loft into the wall "somewhere".

The whole house is wired for TV points but I am unable to find a splitter box anywhere. Is this likely to be buried in the wall?

Its a "bellwinch" home if it makes any difference. Your help is appreciated. I wouldn't mind watching some TV hehe

Thanks

Sounds like there's a splitter box hidden away somewhere. Happy hunting smile

Dumb question. You have checked there is an aerial actually attached to the house?

I moved in and the sockets and cable were all fitted just fine. Was missing the shiny metal thing though.

It'd be pretty poor practice for the splitter to be buried within walls/floors etc but anything's possible...

I'd have a really good look in all nooks and crannies, odd little cupboards etc- the attic or the mains (electrical) position are the normal locations though. Could be a splitter box removed (lots of co-ax cables cut off/unplugged?) under insulation in attic?

and oh, if it's an estate of similar houses bang on the neighbours doors and ask if they know where theirs are!

And it should be AC powered if a proper splitter/amp.

You haven't moved to an area where terrestrial has been switched off?

My sister had the same problem where she just moved in. After 5 minutes of me turning up i found it in the old airing/boiler cupboard tucked away.

so you have a aerial on the roof/in the attic space? or do you have a communal aerial shared between a few properties?

if you can trace the cable from the aerial itself does it go into any box's (small plastic covered about the size of digital camera)

Do you just have one tv point? or is it possible to trace other cables from different rooms

So you dont have any Freeview terrestrial signal at all? Or do you mean your Analogue has gone?

I'd lift the floorboards in the room underneath wherever the aeriel 'disappears' into the wall in the loft. Putting the splitter in that void would make it relatively easy to spider off to the various rooms upstairs and downstairs

Yes, analogue. Should probably have clarified that.

It is in my own attic space. I am unaware of any boxes it goes into as the cable leads from out of the roof into a wall in the hall.

I am unable to trace as per the above.

I am not sure whether analogue has been switched off but the TV has built in freeview which should utilise the aerial to pick up the signal.

A bit random and possibly unhelpful but when we had our old aerial replaced a couple of years ago we had to have the cable changed too because the old-style cable design allowed water to pass from the aerial right down to the socket at the back of the TV, it's quite common apparently. Just wondering if the problem isn't the splitter thingy at all.
