Moved into a new apartment, and my bedroom window has a crap blind on it which blocks no light at all, what can I use as an improvisation so I can actually get some sleep and not wake up at 5am every morning? I have tinfoil...

Can't offer any specific solutions, but might be worth asking and/or searching in the Home Cinema & HiFi forum?

You could use something like tinfoil.
Or do what I do, and wear sunglasses in bed.

I'm hoping I get raided by the Sweeney, as I'll look ice cool.

Tempted to use tinfoil whilst I get some blinds on order, does that make me someone who has the keys to a pie cabinet?

Will you be re-decorating? I ask, because you could use a roll of duct tape to seal it off? may leave the wall/frame a bit gooey though. And it would look a bit like a cock womble dungeon of felatio.

I've made a monster out of a giant cardboard box and tin foil, at least it's dark, looks horrible though, will need to get some blinds on order ASAP!

Ikea do a very very good basic heavy dark blind. If you need it to be very properly dark, you'll want a blind and curtains probably.

board of wood? bed sheet? take the blinds down, pack out the window with rolled up white plastic bags then tape it up on the inside with black bags?

Sorted now, out of a hideous combination of cardboard, white baking paper (So it doesn't look like a grow hut from the outside!) and foil!

Now to get the blind on order...

Really good thanks, Montreal is an awesome city, although I'm not really making the most of it at the moment playing games on my laptop! There's so many festivals on at the moment! Going to the Warped Tour tomorrow, so should be going to bed really, haha!

You can stick tin foil to a window with water. It's not elegant but it works a treat.

I had the same problem in my bedroom (shift work, sleeping during the day) and ended up nailing an old, thick set of curtains to the window frame.

They had the added benefit of muffling the screams too.

I have since invested in some proper black-out curtains which are brill, although during the day I still sleep with a black stocking (kindly donated by a previous victim willing participant) tied around my eyes.

And, when I awake, if I push the stocking up onto my forehead, I look like that bloke off of "The Deer Hunter". Bonus.

The OH complains about the slightest glimmer of light stopping her from getting to sleep, so we got some 'blackout' curtains from the Range which are pretty effective. The blackout effect comes from some sort of plastic lining rather than the visible curtain material. on a bright sunny morning (the room faces South) there's only a bit of light visible around the edges.

I would assume that other shops selling curtains have something similar.

We got some sheets of thick white vinyl material and then used double sided velco to attach them to the window.

It's done for 2 kids for the best part of 7 summers now with no complaints and I'll be using the same solution here in Dubai if my new curtains don't keep the master bedroom dark enough!
