the cable to recline our sofa has broken, well, a plastic retainer on the end of the cable has snapped. Anyone every repaired one before? where to get parts? no brand or model number anywhere to be seen.

Motorcycle shop.

They might sell the bolt on nipples that are often used on vintage machines and as a repair for a cable that has shed it's nipple.

Otherwise a motorcycle shop that makes cables should be able to help!

thanks but nipples are fine, its a plastic retainer that secures the outer cover of the cable at the bottom end.

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying.

If it is securing the outer in place (to hold the cable in place) then I'd just chemical metal it.

If it is a plastic piece that operates the mechanism that's broken you either need a replacement or to repair the old one.

Pics would probably help, but I expect it's a job for the chemical metal.

Where did you buy it?

We bought ours from DFS. After 5 years - and therefore 2 years out of warranty, the hinges on one of the recliners failed. On inspection of the other 3 seats, another one was showing signs of failure. We popped into DFS on the off chance they could help us fix them. They still had all the details of the model we bought, and got onto the supplying factory. A complete recliner frame was £130. We ordered 2, and they fitted them FOC.

Cracking service!

it is securing the cable at the botom end against the frame. Hence it keeps the outer part of the cable solid while the inner bit does he pulling. Looks to me as it is moulded around the cable so a new cable will be needed or the bodge you suggested. A fair amount of pressure on this though when the lever is pulled.
