We are looking at having a multifuel stove fitted - Needs to be DEFRA approved and heat a room that is 10m x 4m.

Using a couple of the online calculators suggest 8kw -

We have found a Firefox stove for around £430 that seems good value. Don't mind spending around £900 though.

Any advice would be great.

There is an 8kW version of the Firefox, but I have a feeling only the 5kW model is DEFRA approved, will check though.

We've got the smallest version (4 kw I think?) fitted to our house.
Room is 4.5 x 4 m in size and it kicks out plenty of heat, we normally have to leave the room door open once is going well.

Its been in about 1.5 years now and no problems experienced. We do have GCH though so its just used for cosiness and additional heating if we are lazing around.
Glass is still nice and clear (ish), never cleaned.
Easy to light & get going.
Easy to clean out the ash with the tray.

I fitted it myself and it was easy to install.

4 out of 5 because it does not light itself!

Sandy.

Many thanks for the Info. I have come to the conclusion that 8kw isn't enough to heat the house.

So if anyone can recommended a defra approved stove around the 11kw range that would be great.

All the ones I can find are 1500 plus!

I assume you've been through the exercise of installng as much insulation as possible first.

DEFRA approved, should be in the region of £1k.

Do bear in mind they aren't specifically designed to heat an entire house.

House is fully insulated but is a big 1930's detached place and costs ££ to heat.

Cheers for the pointers folks but still cant find anything that is DEFRA approved and outputs 11kw plus (well anything for less than £1600)

Might just bight the bullet and get a none defra stove and not burn wood.

Edit to say needs to be multifuel.
