Hi all,

I want to change my loft into a bit of a den, the electrics, paneling, insulation and layout are all easy enough but i'm not 100% sure on what I've been told about the roof.

The 2 horizontal beams are in the way and I was told that where the vertical supports come down around the perimeter of the roof, I can simply tie into each horizontal beam, taking it down to the floor and then run the horizontal beam under the floor.

Is this the normal way of doing this or do I also need to run more supports around the whole roof?

Dave!

Hard to say without seeing it properly - but seen a few jobs where people have simply hacked through roof joists and the roof has started bowing. They make look flimsy but they are there for a reason!

I would be talking to a structural engineer before doing anything.
