Lawn care/Dog pee
Discussion
After 6 weeks of joy of a lovely new laid lawn, I've now got brown patches all over from the dog peeing on it
. It's only a small garden so the patches are quite concentrated.
We do try to take him out for a pee, but it's not always possible (it's mainly the midnight pee that's the problem). If we see him do it we rush out with the hose to water it down.
I believe there is an old wives tale about putting tomato ketchup on his food to neutralize the pee, but he just wont touch his food if we try that, so;
Any other suggestions? Anything I can buy from the pet shop?
The grass looks dead but interweb seems to have varying ideas that the grass will regrow (some even saying it will come back even healthier, but I doubt that!). When it was laid there was a couple of dead patches that look similar to the pee patches, despite us watering (under bushes and the like). The landscape gardener said that grass was just 'sleeping' and would come back, which in fact it did. Is this what's happening with the dog pee patches?
Finally, we have one area near an old tree stump that has mushrooms growing out of the grass. I go and knock them down every so often, hoping to catch them before the spores are released, but is there a way of eradicating the 'shrooms?

We have exactly the same issue. Have tried new seed, dog rocks but both have failed. We re-turfed the grass at our old place in the end. That lasted a couple of months!
The garden at the new house is now partly destroyed, we have decided that we are going to fence off the lawn and keep the dog off it as much as possible.
Though I have thought about lay artifical grass in the worse areas, but I don't really like the look of it and can see it smelling quite bad after a while.

Yep, same here, our lawn is knackered thanks to the pooch. Tired of re-seeding etc etc.
I also looked at the fake lawn stuff but came to the same conclusion it would probably end up smelling a bit and be peppered with left over clegs of turd that stick like fury to it.
Job this weekend is make half of it a patio and dig the rest up and replace it with rubber chips (like wood chips but rubber!) that we got for free!

TBH I'd rather have a dead lawn than shame my poor hound like that
