New aerial cost? (Roughly)
Discussion
So I'm considering binning Virgin Media, which means I'll need to sort the aerial out. It's never been able to get many channels. We use freeview upstairs, and it picks up about 20 channels. This is why we opted for Virgin Media in the first place, for a freeview-esque box that comes with the phone and broadband.
So, any ideas on what it'd cost to replace the aerial, either professionally or otherwise?

It depends on how good a reception area you are in.
I paid about £200 to get one installed last year with a roof mounted amplifier. My old one looked pretty decent, but would not pick up any HD signals. The new one has to sit on a massive mast. The guy spent about 2.5 hours in total, the first hour of which was trying to get the old aerial to work.
If you are happy to do it yourself, a similar aerial to the one I had installed is about £35 and probably the same again for the amp (if you need it), mast and fixings.
You will save a fair amount doing it yourself, but I was more than happy to pay £100 for someone else to climb the ladder and hang off my chiney instead!

It will all depend on your location.
Best bet ring a few people and get a couple of quotes, then feel free to post on here asking them to detail the equipment they are planning on using and the cost. There are enough people on here who either install tv aerial systems at the moment or who have does so in the past that will be able to tell you if its a fair price.
Things to have in mind will be
Do you have any existing aerial system ie pole brackets or existing coax cable?
Your location, are there lots of trees of hills around? if so a large pole and bracket may be needed.
How many tv points do you need? any more than 1 or maybe 2 you will probably require a booster unless you are in a strong signal area.
