Remove scratches from wood laminate table

During the week the Mrs bought most of Habitat, one purchase was a dining room table which looks to have a 2mm laminate over particle board (hope that makes sense). On arrival there are lots of small scratches, none of which go through the wood. We called Habitat but have to deal with their administrators regarding the table.

In case they are not prepared to take a return, is there a corrent method for removing light scratches from the surface and resealing?

Metal polish might do it - but the risk is that you go through the coloured surface of the laminate so getting a light patch.
