Has anyone got any decent experience of a laminate type floor that has proper longevity in bathrooms?

I don't really want to tile as I fear it will raise the floor level that bit too much and I generally despise lino (unless it is a nicer product these days?).

Bit worried that a snap together solution is going to swell up no matter how 'waterproof' it claims to be

I was thinking about this before i tiled my bathroom floor.

I looked at it futher and the depth of the ply/adhesive/tiles on top of the bare bathroom floor was no thicker than the combination of underlay/carpet in the hallway so there was no issue there.

The difference with laminate might save you 10mm but this could easily make the bathroom lower than the hallway carpet etc and the 10mm you've saved in the bathroom you'd never notice.

Have a look at vinyl flooring before you rule them out. They're much nicer to walk on with bare feet and totally waterproof. Infinite designs too, including wood planks.

philmots - I will have to calculate but it seems to me that ply, adhesive and tiles will be a bit higher than our carpet which is a short loop type so not too tall.

Simpo - I will take a look at modern vinyl, know of a good place to start or a respected manufacturer.

sleep - never heard of it. Had a quick google and will do some more checking/order a catalogue.

Recently did both my bathrooms with Karndean, dead easy to fit and well pleased with the results.

Amtico is perfect for bathrooms IMO. Had a bathroom and a shower room fitted with the stuff 4 years ago and it still looks perfect. Kardean is a very similar product I believe.

Just go into a few carpet places and they'll have the books on display, you can judge the quality by feel and price.
