I have been able to find a nice set of oak French doors, but they are pre hung.

The frame is bang on 72 inches. The opening is 71 inches. Is it ok to trim the frame to fit the opening?? Would 0.5 inches each side really be a big issue

Are they internal walls? Solid or stud? I'd be tempted to make adjust the opening to fit the frame.

Its and external door (Brick). So not as easy to widen for a DIYer

No problem at all Stevie, circular saw taking half an inch off each side or a plane if you prefer. Then frame fixers through frame into brick three each side two top and bottom then, squirt a line of silicon sealant on the frame first, then a line on the brick to frame join to finish off. A strip of masking tape on the frame keeps the silicon where you want it without spreading it all over the frame.

Thank you, the frame is reasonable size 3 inches between the door and wall so 1/2 inch should be an issue.

Will probably use a router to take it down by 1/4 of an inch a time and then work down to 1/8ths to make it fit.

I dont know why uPVC doors are so expensive compared to a nice Oak door.
