I wonder why more people with the land don't have panels in the garden? I realise the risk of damage is increased and surrounding trees/buildings may cast shawdows but properly placed are they not the solution for buildings without south facing roofs or roofs unsuitable for panels (e.g. listed buildings)?

Must be easy to access to install and maintain too?

Not sure if it's the same for where you are, but anything on the ground more than about 2.5kW would need planning permission here. Puts some people off anyway.

'Return on captial invested'. Plus if they can afford their energy bills, they probably have more interesting things to spend their money on.

As said, you need planning, and the FIT has just been reduced significantly in a graded scale for larger schemes.

OK Return on Capital Employed then. Same difference.
