Hormann garage door remote programming

I've just bought a house which has been reposessed. Hence, no garage door remote.

The garage door is a Hormann Supramatic E 2. I can find instructions to teach a new remote (providing i have the old one), but nothing about pairing a new remote from scratch. Hormann just refer me to one of their agents, who all want to supply me a remote for a lot more than i can get one from ebay.

A Hormann HSE 2 remote, which is the correct one for my door, i believe.

The only documentation i can find is this,

which is only useful if i have the old remote. I would obviously also like to UN-Pair the old remote, so the previous owners don;t help themselves to the contents of my garage.

I looked into this a while ago - pretty sure the eBay ones are cheap because you can't reprogram them

Or for around £90 they do a universal replacement kit,that would certainly stop the previous occupants.

Thanks. Yes I had seen that, but unfortunately it mentions that it's not applicable to the supramatic model

Most of these units use the same method to add new remotes.

Usually press 2 buttons on the motor unit together, system beeps or the light comes on, press your remote within 5 seconds and the system beeps or light goes out.

Fiddle about with it a bit.

This is an old thread but posting an update here because it is still coming up on google.

You can programme the remotes directly into the operator by following the instructions in the manual. I had no joy getting one remote to learn from another but I did successfully programme them directly into the operator.

You call also delete all existing remote codes on the operator to prevent lost remotes from working. You then have to start again with the remotes you do have, but that only takes a few seconds.

I managed to get the HSE 2 remote wet and have dried it out and replaced the battery.


The LEDs illuminate on the remote but the garage door doesn't open so I assume it needs reprogramming but I only have one remote which we inherited when we bought the house so I can't reprogramme using the buddying system.

In the above link it says "Note: Some 868Mhz Hormann operators such as the ProMatic 2 & SupraMatic E2 etc. have an integral remote control receiver so if you have one of these you'll need to refer to procedure as detailed in the users manual for the direct programming method if you don't have an 'already programmed' transmitter from which you can 'copy' the remote code. I don't have the original user manual and none of the links seem to contain instruction to reprogramme the remote from the main unit for the HSE 2 (which I assume stands for Hormann Supramatic 2.

I assume its just a matter of putting the main receiver into the correct mode and pressing the right buttons in the right order but I can't for the life of me find the instructions of how to do it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello everyone - this page ranks in Google and given there was no answer on this thread, and I just spent 60 minutes of my life working this out I thought I would share the solution.

The clue that solved the puzzle to programming a new remote, without an existing one to pair it to was this French YouTube video:

Which I will translate below

1/ Press PRG for 5 seconds. The "1" appears,and becomes "L" after 2 seconds
2/ Press PRG once, "P" appears then "0" flashes
3/ Press PRG until the decimal point lights up next to the "0"
4. Press the button on the remote. When the flashing accelerates the button is connected
