i'm currently with British Gas.
New house is supplied by ScottishPower (there's an arrears letter showing the previous occupants owe thousands, and there's a threat to break in and fit a pay and go meter from a month ago).

Do i need to keep the electric and gas with Scottish power, or can i just ring them, and tell them the previous occupants have gone, and move my British Gas accounts over to the new house ?

Cheers

Andy

You just tell them the previous occupants have gone and then you are free to have whichever provider you want. A forwarding address/contact details for the previous occupants would be appreciated by ScottishPower if you have it.

Ring British gas tell them you are moving on x/x/x from A to B and would like to transfer your account, they should arrange a meter reading a both properties (do it yourself as well)... And that's about it.

Just done this myself and I was alot easier than I'd thought

And as above give Scottish power that forwarding address and any other contact details you have for them

AFAIK on moving in day you would get the standard tariff from the incumbent supplier, and then can switch as you choose smile

It'll be a nightmare. They will chase you for the previous owners bill for ages. Sorry to be negative and all that. Hope I'm wrong.

I expect it to be honest. That's what you get when you buy a repo biggrin. I'm quite sure i'm going to have to fight with many more debts they left.

Usually the way i'm afraid. Just tough it out and stay calm in the knowledge that you are in the right.
