ced'linked up' CCTV
Discussion
Does anybody know the legality and technical issues of installing a village wide CCTV system? We already have a few private CCTV systems in our village of 100 houses but they are mostly in the wrong places, and not very good quality whereas our recent problems with crime suggest we need about 6 beter quality and strategically placed cameras which are either acessible via the net from one location or all working together on one system.
I recall that cameras viewing public areas might have lots of data protection and legal issues but that camers installed to view private areas which happen to view oublic areas are not subject to those requirements?
Can we wirelessly link them to one recording centre?

Extract from s.3 "The use of cameras for limited household purposes is exempt from the DPA. This applies where an individual uses CCTV to protect their home from burglary, even if the camera overlooks the street or other areas near their home."

Looking at the DPA guidelines it seems that 'organisations' running CCTV get caught up by the DPA., individuals do not.Extract from s.3 "The use of cameras for limited household purposes is exempt from the DPA.
