Can anyone recommend a good thermostatic mixer? Is it worth paying extra for a Grohe, or will a Triton, Swirl, Moretti, Mira etc be just as reliable? Tritons are available for £50 on ebay, Grohes start at about £180 (Screwfix)

It's going to be powered by a 1.5 bar pump

Personally I'm a big fan of Bristan products - sensible price, good quality and superb spares support. Mira and Aqualisa are very good too. Triton's ok - for some reason I've never really been enthusiastic about them - don't know why mind, not really any bad experiences to speak of, they just don't do it for me.

As for Grohe - well I've tried getting spares from them before. Tried being the operative word. Fortunately I was able to jerry rig it, as I'm still waiting for the part to come in 18 months later. Imho you pay extra for the name, not for better quality. From my experiences with them I'd never ever fit them in my own house.

I've got 3 Triton ones in my house, ran everyday for 5yrs, no problems at all so far.

The previous owner of our house was a plumber / gas fitter, and pretty much all the stuff in the bathrooms is Bristan, including a thermostatic mixer shower. Perhaps he had an account with them or something, but either way it does seem quite nicely made.

My parents used to have Aqualisa showers in their house (before they moved). They seemed very reliable and on the odd occasion that they had an issue Aqualisa were more than happy to send out replacement parts FOC even outside of the warranty period

No real experience, but I had to order a new shower this weekend and after a bit of research Aqualisa seemed to come out tops.

http://www.plumbworld.co.uk have quite a good range.
