Depends on your budget. I've found my Ikea mattress + decent topper very comfortable... even more comfortable than a £800 pocket sprung.

All down to taste really, but I've had better nights sleep on the Ikea one than many others.

What is it about the memory foam you don't like? Too firm, Too hot?

We swapped from a standard spring mattress to a Tempur and I can honestly say its the best investment I've ever made. Originally I bulked at spending nearly £2k on just a mattress, but we both now sleep soo much better - any other bed/hotel mattress just seems like a waterbed in comparison. Every time I sink into it I thank God we risked it.

The only downside is they are slightly 'hotter' in the summer.

Your best bet is to put a day aside and go and lie on as many as you can - not just for a few minutes, take your time and really try to find whats best for you. We happened to be in Swindon and there were quite a few different shops close that we could visit/try. We compared memory foam to Tempur and the difference was VERY significant - despite what the sales guys said.

The issue for me was settlement, and the more layers of gubbins a mattress has on top (and so the more comfortable it feels in the shop) the more it will settle.

Vi-Spring, always. We strayed from them once, never again.

Another vote for Vi Spring. Flippin' brilliant mattresses, and British made, too.

I have this mattress and love it. Firm but luxurious. Great value for money.
