PIR Floodlight misbehaving...
Discussion
We've got a PIR activated flood on the front of the garage, about 2 years old - one of these in fact:
Noticed a couple of weeks ago as I walked past it triggered as normal, then the light got very erratic and flickery, then it went out. Next time I walked past it, the relay clicked but no light. Fair enough, filament has gone, new lamp needed.
However, I have noticed a couple of times since that it lights up occasionally when triggered, flickers a bit, then goes out. Subsequent attempts to get it to trigger don't work!
Ideas? Could it be a duff filament that, as it heats up stops working for a few minutes afterwards? Could it be a knackered light fitting? Should I check the electrics (it's on a separate switch, fitted by the builder when we had the garage done and he seemed to know what he was doing!)?
I will go ahead and change the lamp when I have a chance, just wondering what PH's resident sparks think?

as stupid as it sounds check the lamps properly installed, as they have a tendancy to sit with the fittings prong "on the edge" of the lamps cup. also check contacts- due to heat and load they're prone to overheating, and when replacing these type of lamps gently "roll" in situ to work out any tiny dirt/grease/debris on the contact.

could it have something to do with 911motorsports cat?? (check the thread)
Our lamp triggers when it's blowing a fair old gale but the other night noticed that it had lit up and it was quite a still evening.
Peeked out the back window and it was a cat. Just fired off a hand written letter to someone who may or may not have a cat.
Without prejudice.

make sure you get the local PCSO involved too.... and send a bill for a new lamp to the cat owner/victim

If the bulb is still working could it be a duff PIR? I reckon to have to change my South facing PIR activated light unit every few years - the current incumbent has done quite a few years and is now getting reluctant to switch itself off, even with no wind, so will have to go.
Would expect more than 2 years service from one though.
