Had this problem with property in SE8 - would suggest getting reputable company (Rentokil?) to deal ASAP in case they are present and start to gnaw through electrical wiring (rats, not Rentokil!) which could start a fire, which is unlikely but possible.
Believe several visits will be necessary to put down traps etc and ensure no recurrence.

If there are noticeable holes they are coming up through. Wire wool in the hole stops them getting through as trying to bite through it cuts their mouths. It'd need securing in place though.

Well, depends what the tenancy agreement says and it's a HMO / flats or a single residence but TBH, I would want to get it dealt with myself to ensure it's done properly: tenants come and go, rats are long-term. smile

you must have gay rats around your parts my friend ,when i was a apprentice we had a steel bin compound, the rats would go through the concrete every night ,we used to fill the holes with swarf and broken glass and they still went through it !

i had this problem with my tenants a few months back with the bds in the ceiling (mice not rats). One tenant found a mice on his bedroom floor.

there is a council service you can call out which will do the full works and its free smile

im in tower hamlets, not sure what its like in SE.

tenants happen to be my mates so i politely told him to do one when he called me at 3am to tell me about a mouse.

Was on a program about a rat killing bloke and it was his tip. I think you have to secure it or they'll pull it away but it sounded like they couldn't munch through it.

No experience of trying to eat through it though. Doesn't appeal.

Are they in the kitchen? If so, I know someone who may be able to help. Don't know how good he is though.
