One for the Carpenters. Lightning Strike joint?

Father in Law is a builder, and needs to know how to construct a Lightning Strike joint in ridge timber.

Had a quick google, but nothing obvious.

I'm sure there must a PH'r with the knowledge.

Never heard of a lightning strike joint but a scalf joint should do the trick:

There are many various types of scarf joint, some of which are unbelievable ( and take years of practice i imagine) If its just a simple case of joining timber he should be fine with a basic scarf.

It is a haunched/cogged or stepped scarf/scarph joint as I remember. Actually done by Tommy Walsh's chippy on one of his series on Quest where he builds a posh workshop.
