Garage Build Advice
Discussion
Alrite guys,
guess this forum might have a few garage experts on here!
Ive just bought a house semi detached, with no garage, large shed in need of some work but a big drive long enough for 3 cars but no really wide enough for a garage. So idea would be to dig into back garden and put a single garage there
im looking for size advice, it will have to be a single, idea is to store the car in it when im away offshore, but will use as a workshop when home.
any ideas where i can get info from on good size (not massive though) or photos of what you have built etc all appricated
Cheers

Measure the length of your car then add 3ft.
Open both front doors of your car fully and measure from door edge to door edge, then add 1 ft to that measurement.
I would say that's the minimum sized garage you should have, based on the aaumption that you are not going to trade up to a much larger car in the forseeable future.

That will give you what estate agents call a double garage!Open both front doors of your car fully and measure from door edge to door edge, then add 1 ft to that measurement.

Cheers for tips guys, unfortuantly i dont think ill get away with making it all that wide, does anyone know the dimensions of a conventional lock up?? i can however make it longer, current car is Audi S3 so quite small but need it to take estate as next car will be wither mustang or RS4 so will need the length at least for RS4
anyone and photos or designs of single garages?
Cheers again

Measure the length of your car, add 10 feet minimum, and even then you'll regret not making it bigger. There will be no storage at the sides of the car, so all work, bench, storage, tool board, and movement will have to be done at the ends.
Quite simply, make it as big as possible, golden rule of garages and workshops.
