Water went out yesterday and was on very low pressure (30 mins for toilet to refill, etc) there is no pressure to go through the boiler so the chance of a hot shower is none existent so spent most of the day feeling dirty but masked by deodorant after having luke warm wash thanks to kettle and some cold water that did come out of the sink. Water company said it was a location nearby that had burst and it was the main waterway/pipe for the area and would be back online sometime yesterday, which was a complete lie at 9:30pm when I turned in for the night.

Roll on today I get up and want to go to work and this time there is no effing water at all... Im not sure if work have any showers so not wanting to go in under a pure deodorant wash and closest mate that has water is over 35mins away in the wrong direction from work, so Im nicely working from home feeling like a complete and utter tramp. Colleagues have been asked to investigate if we have work showers and who can use them...

Water company have now said its a different leak on a different part of the line and not the same one as Monday... no definitely not the same leak at all... I offer to have a quick walk down to where the original leak was yesterday just to make sure and guy admits its a leak in the same location but definitely has not be going for 24 hours... I ask them how long will it take this time and they are absolutely certain it will be 6 hours and the reason for no water was that everyone has their shower at the same time and as such the demand is really great at 8am... Fine but that was still the case at 6:30am when I wanted my shower.

How long legally are the water company not allowed to deliver my service, I pay through the nose as it is and expect not to be without any type of water for over 24hours...

Unless you have been down a mine all weekend - how dirty are you really?

There are set amounts of payments for cutoff supplies, linked to the number of hours. I'm sure they will do a leaflet drop to all the affected houses smile

Would you rather your water was on in 20 mintues and the pipe kept bursting or it took a few additional hours and it was fixed correctly.

Christ if your that concered about your hygine, spend the £5 or what ever it costs to use a local gym/pool/sports center what ever and use the there showers.

What would you fill it from? This is where modern mains water houses all go wrong - if you lose the mains supply you have nothing as there is no header tank in the loft. I know this as they turned all our water off for a repair a few weeks ago. It's the second time it's happened so this time I filled a load of bottles up first!

ETA - ah, you mean having a jimmy, just go in the hedge!

Not so easy when the nearest hedge is a window box on the 9th floor hehe

Yep 2nd floor and no need for a bucket so dont have one, doesnt help that the builders are around all day... they say it will be back online later on tonight/afternoon.

Can see why a few of the old finnish summer cottages Ive stayed in keep the outside toilet which is a hole in the floor and can get water direct from the lake to heat up to wash with... not easy in central london.

Bucket, out the window, problem solved - as long as you had a huge waste bin below your flat window like I did....surprised I got it in there from 12 floors up hehe

honestly its not that hard to stay clean.

get a washing up bowl, a facecloth and a bar of soap.

fill the washing up bowl from bowling water in the kettle, add cold water to dilute.

use the bowl to get all your bits nice and soapy, use the flannel to scrub and remove suds.

towl to dry.

the only bit you can't really do effectively is your hair- you need another person to help, but unless you have really long hair, then you shoudl be able to spend 4-5 days withonly brushing your hair before it gets greasy.

having spent weeks at a time in the deepest parts of the sahara i can promise you it isn't that hard to stay clean with just one litre of water/day!

I agree. Except he currently has 0L of water due to no supply.

And given his approach so far I don't think he's open to the idea of buying the bottled stuff to wash in. wink

packs of baby wipes will clean you enough to go to work, or anywhere there are showers

The cold water header tank in my Mums house started to leak - very nicely constructed sitting in a lead lined tray with its own drain which caught most of the water, but somehow not all of it so it still seeped through the ceiling. Doh!

Anyhow, the tank seemed massive, and the old plumber changing it said years ago they were sized to give 2 days supply in the event the mains failed. In my Mums house the upstairs taps and the toilet cistern fill from the tank.

Maybe I'm missing the point, but if there is no water how is he going to fill a washing up bowl or a kettle?

They're supposed to make water available from tankers within 12 hrs.

was back online at 16:00 ish yesterday which was nice to finally get a shower... just a shame that its so annoying that they really dont want to give you an guidelines of how long it will be out for even though it was all Monday and most of Tuesday... All I ever got was it will only be a few hours before its back online.
