have only ever just gone and bought the £100 staples special but they last little more than a couple of years.

any recommended brands that are hard wearing but above all, comfortable & supportive?

looking around £150-200 if that's possible confused

My current client uses these and they are very comfortable, adjustable, easy to clean and if you fart it just goes through the mesh rather than lodging in foam smile

Second hand Herman Miller from eBay.

Might be £800+ new but you should find one in your budget if you buy used. Almost always 'collection only' which puts other bidders off (they are quite heavy!)

My 'Mira' would be a good chair at new price, at the £180 I paid for it, it's an awesome chair.

This is a bloody good question, my budget has been even smaller and it's the definition of false economy.

I got the Staples Leather Look Managers chair for £25 or so, has lasted for several years much to my surprise. Much longer than the Operator chairs I had before.

Mind you its well below your budget!

+1 and my HM Aeron appears to be cat proof as well.

thanks guys, I did notice the HM stuff standing out price wise on flea & was interested to see if they got a mention, I do like the aeron & the idea of mesh as it'll keep things cool, no head rest though?? for those rare, head back, thoughtful moments (rare, but they do happen biggrin) & at those prices you'd want it to have everything, pop up TV would be good at those prices eek

thing is, if I hunt down an older (used) HM chair I dont it'll have ALL the adjustment that I REALLY need (bodybuilder shape) & some of the new ergonomic mesh chairs offer allot of adjustment, look pretty cool to...

What's the difference between size A and size B in the Herman Miller range? Is one for tall people?

I was looking at a Herman Miller Aeron in John Lewis the other day, but I thought £895 was a bit steep. Very comfy though.

Here's a sizing chart - http://www.hermanmiller.com/MarketFacingTech/hmc/p...

Second hand makes sense for these - they handle wear and tear quite well.

I still have the Staples Real leather one for £200 (bought 5 years ago) and it's good as new!

Mind you it's so heavy i had to get one of the removal men to shift it .. he spluttered something along the lines of "i hope this f8cking chair is comfortable!"

I've owned a GTV and spent enough time in traffic to know that it's not a comfortable seat.

Now if it was from a GT...

I have one of these, as do several people I know:

Surprisingly comfy and sturdy. I work from home 2 days per week and it's perfect

EDIT: Oh and I hate Aeron chairs - just can't get comfy in them. We have them at work but I have to have a different chair as they give me back ache. They eat trousers too

I'd recommend HM without question. Bought a Mirra new Sept 2005 and on delivery was very pleased with build quality, comfort, adjustability etc. It also came with a 12 year warranty.

In July 2009, part of the chair back broke, probably due to all 6"3 of me pushing body weight on the back of the chair quite often when having a stretch.

It took a couple of weeks to get a new chair back delivered but a guy popped around to my house to fit it. He also commented that the seat base which I tore through sitting on it with sharp part of jeans or something could have been replaced under warranty too (rather than me having bought a replacement seat part on ebay).

I've spent pretty much every day in this chair, for over 5 years and haven't had back pain or major RSI once (did have a bout of RSI previous to this chair and had to have treatment).

I used a HM for years and loved it - recently bought an Ergohuman chair and have to say - for me - it's better!

New price is same as used ebay HM's, more flexible design, more comfy.

Love it.

This.

Although since the OP is looking for a WFH chair he's unlikely to be wearing a suit.

after everyones help I thought it rude not to at least try an HM....

didn't feel like it fitted tbo & for that money?? to be fair I am an unusual shape to most so maybe thats the reason, I guess they have to be made for the masses.

what i'll probably find is a chair that is uncomfortable for most, fits me fine, it'll also probably be cheaper biggrin

love the mesh & full adjustability though so I guess thats a learn smile

thanks for pointers, will post back what I end up with....

I don't like them either. And the day I first realised my trousers had worn through was a bit of a shock.

I'm looking for a new chair too and haven't had any good ideas past Staples.
