Been meaning to fit some external lights since I moved in 8.5yrs ago, decided its about time I got off my arse & got it sorted now the nights are drawing in!
Looking for 2-3 bulkhead type lights, one to go on the pillar between the doors of a double garage to light the drive as you drive up it, one to go next to the personnel door at the side of the garage & maybe replace the one currently above a patio door. Would require PIRs, not neccesarily attached to the lights but would need them somewhere.

Don't have bags of cash but don't want to fit rubbish, anybody got any suggestions of something decent & durable (I have 2 kids) that gives out a reasonable amount of light?

Go in to your local electrical wholesalers, they'll generally stock stuff of a higher quality than B&Q/Wickes/Homebase. In terms of names, generally anything by Tamlite is good quality. Also the cast iron bulkheads are generally made to a higher standard, and with better materials than plastic ones (IME.

Also, if you do go to your local electrical wholesalers, be kind to them, offer to pay in cash straight away, and they might even increase how much they discount the items by (or be cheeky and ask for the trade discount)

Smiler.

Timeguard make cheap once with PIR/PC built-in.

If you want something rugged, got to be powder-coat ally.

Cheap fluorescent gear or compact replacement lamps can take an age to fire up in colder temperatures & will give poor performance.

Ask E36GUY about something with LED.

Cant go wrong with 28W 2D fittings, as far as bulkheads go IMO.
Cheap to run, last for ages and give out great light.
Thorn would probably be my weapon of choice.
