I have a 7 week delay between exchange of contracts and completion and I am struggling to get buildings insurance to cover the period when my new build is unoccupied awaiting the completion date as it is over the stancard 30 days unoccupied. I have tried a broker and all they cam do is offer me a normal buildings and contents poicy with a 60 days unoccupied but it is £250 more than the ordinary 30 day unoccupied cover I know that I can get once we are within 30 days of completion when an ordinary policy will suffice.

Does anyone know where I can get a few weeks buildings cover for a reasonable sum? The site has 24/7 security.

Try your mortgage company.

When we got our place last month (mortgage with Halifax) because we also got our Buildings & Contents with them they automatically covered the house from exchange even though we didn't complete for a further 2 weeks.

I think the builders will cover it. If not we may have to dwelay exchange until we are within 30 days of completion.
