Move from Yorkshire Wolds to Nottingham area
Discussion
Coming up soon, I have a career move which may (but hopefully won't) involve a need to move from the beautiful rolling hills of the Yorkshire Wolds, to somewhere nearer to Nottingham (within an hour's drive). Putting aside house prices, is there anywhere within that area that will 'feel' the same, in order to soften the blow? I really don't want to move but it might be a case of needs must.
Suggestions appreciated.

I would also say the area around Southwell/Newark is probably the nicest part of Notts and has some really nice picturesque villages and has a proper rural feel to it. Also easy enough to get to Nottingham from there
Whereabouts are you moving from, just out of interest?

Sorry to hear of your impending loss.
However, if you don't mind a 16mile commute to Nottingham, and depending which bit you need to get to, the vale of belvoir (pron. Beaver, I kid you not) is quite pleasant. No big hills but some nice woods, etc and very nice pubs. Not nice like the wolds, but quite pleasant and your money goes a fair way.

Depends on how big your budget is but any of the little villages/hamlets between and around Wirksworth Duffield are very nice; Idridgehay, Windley, Kirk Ireton, Hazlewood etc.
The countryside along the Ecclesbourne valley is beautiful - rolling, 'soft', wooded and hilly, with expansive views. Very like Wales, or parts of Yorkshire too, in some respects.
Duffield itself is like a large village despite being so close to Derby (and less than an hour from Nottingham), has a range of nice houses and has excellent schools.
Wirksworth is a brilliant place to live, with a really nice 'feel', lots of eateries/cafes that are popular during the day and in the evening and with loads of cultural and historical activities/links, including the almost unique 'Wirksworth Festival' ( http://www.wirksworthfestival.co.uk/ ) and, just completed, the Star Disc ( http://stardiscenterprise.co.uk/articles.html ) and also around 45mins to 1hr, traffic dependant, from Nottingham city centre.

This is where I live and I can vouch for it being very rural. In fact I was supposed to be going to the village ploughing match today.Whereabouts are you moving from, just out of interest?

The park is OK if you like living in the city.
We are moving onto the Yorks-Notts border, obviously we can't actually leave Yorkshire but that area twix A1 and M1 has some nice spots.
Are you buying or renting and how much are you spending as I have 4 years of house search experience in the villages around there. Couple of spots I really liked were the Trent villages alongside the A1 and the area between Bawtry and Gainsborough, and some outsdie Newark.
