how much should labour cost for a bathroom

Im planning on getting my bathroom done up. I plan to buy my shower, tiles etc myself and im just looking for someone to tile and install.

I got a quote from the tiller and plumber my folks used, for a 23 sqm bathroom. To tile and fit up shower etc they wanted £2200 for labour. This was £700 dear than my folks bathroom which is bigger.

Im not getting anything fancy just replacing the sink etc and put up tiles.

Is this a reasonable quote it seemed rather high to me.

Just wondered if someone on this can help thanks

Having just done a bathroom from start to finish myself I would pay any amount of money to never have to cut another tile again.

Sounds pretty cheap to me for such a large bathroom.

If ive worked that out right thats £95 a square meter??

Id be ringing someone else....
We got advised to use this plasterer by 3 different people he came measured up and wanted just shy of £1800 for what was effectively 6 walls and 2 ceilings, we rang someone else he came replaced one of the ceilings due to fault found in a corner and bill was £1300,

I dont know if these people just try there luck after you ve told them you were put on to them by such and such etc.

Back to your labour costs thou im sure someone will be along to give a roundabout average price per square meter.

its tiny but I'm getting floor tilled as well.
also I'm using massive tiles if that makes a difference

Massive tiles makes job easier. I would get some more quotes. Unless you've had a couple you don't know whether it's high or not.

I am having our ensuite done - approx 12sqm floor, 2 full walls and a shower cubicle. I bought all the suite, taps, tiles, grouts etc.

So for plumbing materials (like for like so not much) and all labour it is costing £700 (not vat registered)

but at £40 a metre x 23 that makes £920
then for fitting a shower sink and toilet I thought 500-700
which would make it around 1500-1600 mark

i think I shot myself in the foot by saying I'd seen the job he done at my folks and I was wanting to use him and if I couldn't afford him I'd save up and come back.

now I was being honest when I said that I didn't mind a 100 or so being put on but I think he's taking the piss.

he's still taking the piss at that price however it's worth paying for someone who you know will do a decent job

Are all the shower and toliet staying in the same place?

My brother has always worked on a rule of £175 a day labour aand if your having big tiles a square meter will soon be down and laid as said above you ve made the job a whole lot easier.

Shower is moving from one wall to another, but at the time he said it wasn’t a hassle at all as its electric all he had to do was run one pipe.

Everyone I seem to speak to goes what!!!! The tiles I want are a fair size to about 4 a square metre.

If it’s the case that he’s been taking the piss with the quote (which it seems) then I wont be using him. As I said id be using the same tiles and getting the same work done as my folks but the bathroom is a ¼ smaller. I don’t mind paying above the going rate but I don’t like to be taken for a mug. £700 is a lot of money that’s new leathers money! Or a sofa.

Im doing my bathrrom next weekend!! As the quote i got were well into £2000 for a complete refit with me providing all the materials.

the working included remove/refit sink/bath/toilet in the same place and tile bathroom with 25sqm of tiles. Also lay a 7sqm tile floor.

The Wall tiles are 300x600mm and the fllor tiles are 600x600mm.

Its not something i am looking forward to doing but i refuse to pay pver £2000 for labour.

If it takes me 3 weeks to do it then so be it, we have another bathrrom to use, so it will be annoying but i will not be under pressure to get it up and running in a day.

I’m getting all 4 walls tallied and the floor. 23 sqm is the total area coverage I would need when buying the tiles, allowing for mistakes.

Electrics need moved but I said I’d deal with that.

Never said anything about backerboard.

It's not even a weeks work. £1,000k labour max.

If a tiler can command a salary the best part of £50k a year then i'm in the wrong business. 2-3 days max on tiling, 2 days max on plumbing.

Plumbers tend to charge around £200 per day upwards around here, tilers £120 to £150.

I'm a pen pusher and ripped out a utility room and installed a toilet and basin in an evening (albeit 5 hours ) included cutting a hole in the wall for the pan, it's not rocket science.
