Obviously I have tried the traditional method of nuking them from orbit, however I was wondering if there was an alternative PH recommended way of killing weeds? I keep telling the wife that pulling them up won't kill them, and she as now asked me to sort it.

What actually works, one of those gas burning wand things, or a good dose of Roundup?

Weedol Max works ok, the gas wands are good at knocking down the foliage but big weeds might come back. If it's in an area that you never want to grow anything Pathclear is the way forward as it is persistant.

Oh, and don't use a gas wand on shrub beds with bark chip mulch, I can confirm the results are embarrasing...

There's weeds and there's weeds. Get a book on weeds and identify them. Then you can understand their lifecycles, and you'll know what to do. smile

I found the wand pretty useless, although satisfyling in a "burn them to hell" manly way. It also takes ages to zap everything and the roots are pretty intact and it came back fast.

Roundup has proved much more successful. It wipes out just about anything - grass it kills instantly - more woody things, as it says on the can, may take a second application.

I use an equivalent of Roundup, exactly the same active ingredient (Glyphosate) but much cheaper than the brand name, always had good service from this eBay seller: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ALL-ROUND-WEEDKILLER-1L-...

If you do buy the brand name, check the concentration, and don't waste money on pre-diluted stuff, you'll end up paying about 10 times more than I do.

And certainly don't use one near dry pampas grass, especially when the garden has just been completely redesigned/planted at great expense.
