must be a lot...

Our daughter had a new washing machine delivered yesterday... As I couldn't get the old one in the car myself, I suggested she left it outside the house with "scrap man please take" written on the side... It was gone in 20 mins!

That's right - it is. I sold one that was busted on eBay and got 30 quid. The guy came and collected it for spares (repair man or washing machine collector I assume).

I've had the same, except I was loading it into the boot of the car when I got stopped by some traveling types. They're everywhere!

Round our way the local scrap chaps take white goods home, the kids strip them to the various metals and once the piles get big enough the piles of copper, steel and stainless steel are weighed in, they seem to get by. wink

Scrap wise, not much. Most of the weight is the concrete slab in the bottom, guess the drum is worth a bit as it't stainless. Either way, not much tbh. But if you've got a transit full and en route to the bridge, it all helps.

You should try leaving an old banger on your drive in bits...

Scrap value in my area is about £10. Or it was three weeks ago.

Remove all working parts and sell them on fleabay. I usually get about £60 per machine, sometimes more. I reckon our local tip handles about a million pounds of rejected consumer goods every year. What a wasteful society we live in.

I saw an ad on Gumtree a while back 'Renault Clio rolling chassis for sale'

read the ad..."took the engine out to refurb on my driveway and some travellers stole it while I was at work".

My parents were having a new bathroom fitted over the summer. They live in a really quiet suburban cul-de-sac, up in the corner with a longish drive a fair way from the road. The old suite was sat at the top of the drive next to the garage and within 20 minutes some pie key had smashed up the bath for the taps and fittings. Brass balls, the fitters were in and out so I guess they couldn't give a st about being caught. I find it amazing - somebody had clearly seen the vans and decided to hang about to try and pinch something!

Jokes on them though, they weren't brass so were worth fk all!

Some nice folk nicked a Fiesta engine from outside my girlfriend's family home. Another mate has had a Shogun engine on his drive for well over a year but somehow that's still there!

Similarly, a lorry of some sort clouted a low branch on our street, knocked a big chunk of metal off the front of his loadbay thing (glorified skip at the back). I moved it (and the branch) out of the road as he just pissed off, within 20 minutes the metal was gone. They don't hang around these metal lovers.
