I'm on with fitting a bathroom and have drained the system down to replace a radiator with a towel rail in the bathroom. I've refilled the system which seemed to take ages and fired the heating and hot water on for over an hour now. In the cylider cupboard I can feel the pipes round the pump are hot but I'm not getting either heating or hot water working.

Any ideas?

I'm not a plumber but it sounds like an airlock somewhere - have you fully bled the system? It also helps if you turn off all rads except one and force the water through that way if still no luck after bleeding.

No doubt someone more technical will be along shortly. wink

ETA - have you checked your boiler doesn't need re-pressurising if its a combi?

Air lock in pump or even pump stuck?

If you're lucky, it'll have a bleed screew cover that you can undo and if you push the shaft underneath (which should be spinning if the pump is running) water will come out.

Presumeably it's an open vented system, rather than sealed? Is it fully pumped (ie can you have hot water on its own)?

Have a look in the airing cupboard for something similar to this.....

Open them up to bleed air from the pipework.

Phew managed to get it sorted. Turned the pump off for a bit and all of a sudden it "glugged" the airlock out! Nightmare. I've drained it down twice before with no problem but it had been drained for 2 days this time while I've been doing the bathroom.

Thanks for the replies!
