Where better to post this than a car forun eh? rolleyes

Anyway, I am looking for some sofa's. Preferably a matching 3 seater + 2 seater due to the shape of my living room.

My budget is up to around £1200 or so because I am poor.

Would like black leather recliners.

Have found these in the laminated book of dreams: http://www.argos.co.uk/ProductDisplayTRK019?partNu... (Yep...right between the lizzie duke bling and the chipboard furnature) and they look pretty good value for money.

Anyone have any other recomendations? Not keen on taking out finance, would rather buy something I can actually afford now and be done with it.

Argoose, I'd rather be able to see it and sit on it before I bought it.

Have a look at Furniture Village, their regular prices are fairly expensive, but on sale the stuff is pretty good value. They do 3+2 seater sets. I've got the brown pair at the top of this page, had it a good few years now and is still looking good. smile

I did have a look on their site earlier, there's a few 3+2's on there in budget, but only in cream leather. With two kids, not sure that's a great idea!

Buy quality sofas second hand, you can pick some great stuff up on eBay & the like for the same or less than you'd pay for run of the mill rubbish from Argos etc.

Its definitely worth visiting somewhere like furniture village to get an idea of the size and comfort of a sofa.

We tried loads in DFS, FV etc before finding one that was comfortable and the right size to lay out on.

This.

You can get some really nice stuff on ebay or similar second hand. Recently sold two Thomas Lloyd 3 seat chesterfields (not to everyones taste I know) that were minty mint virtually as new. Would cost about £750 each new, sold both for less than £500 combined.

Bargain for someone, I should have kept them smile

Dont buy form Argos or anywhere else you cannot see the product. The quality of the leather is crap.
Definitely worth looking on Ebay for £1200 you should pick up a quality leather suite that will last more than 2 years.

I got one from DFS.. They were the best of the budget sofa places.

Got a 3, a 1, and a foot stool and i think it came to around 1200.

It's 2 years old now and still comes up like new when it's cleaned (it's cream) we've a Labrador that enjoys rolling in mud and generally jumping on/around and muckying up the suite too and tbh i'm impressed how well it has lasted.

I'd get another from them.

A "good" leather Sofa should last 15 to 20 years but you would have to pay a lot more than £1200.

OP. We've got a large 3 seater and a smaller 2 seater dark brown leather sofas that we may be looking to get rid of in the next couple of months. Original purchase price was somewhere in the region of £4k or so from some Italian company. They are a kind of straight design - not rouched or tacky DFS specialsThey are 5 years old and are still in absolutely mint condition.

PM me if you're interested (I can't guarantee we are going to let them both go, as SWMBO keeps changing her mind about what the plan is!)

I bought a tetrad leather sofa for £400 off ebay at the same time my sister bought 2 corner sofas and pushed them together to make one big sofa for £5000. I can't remember where she bought hers from, one of the generic tat stores like DFS or something.
Anyway several years down the line and my sofa looks exactly as it did when I bought it and is awesomely comfortable. Hers are totally fked and the leather if that's what you can call it has worn away.
Get a decent set off ebay rather than a piece of st from argos.

I don't have leather, but a faux suede sofa and chairs from Harveys. I'm sure you'd find something there in budget, but you obviosuly get what you pay for.

when don't they? I once found a shop in Cornwall where they had all of their sofas stacked on top of each other at stupid prices. This is how they can claim that they once were some astronomical price and make the sale prices look good

1200 for 2 sofas in leather of that size will mean very basic leather from somewhere like DFS etc
