burglar alarm bell sounds like a strangled cat

Neighbour said it went off yesterday, and the bell sounded ok for the first couple of minutes then went all wailing eventually diminishing to faint shriek.Is it just the bell on the front of the house or the battery in the box ? Any help appreciated.

If all seems ok with the system and there was no power cuts etc (discounting why the alarm went off in the first place) it could possibly be the Piezo sounder if it's a modern type bell box.

Sometimes the wires become loose or corroded connecting to the metal plate so causing a bad connection. If it is that then best fit a new Piezo or bell. You can resolder the connections although doing so can be a bit of a pain to get right when putting back together.

I think I know why it went off, so it's not false alarming. I pick up a new bell tomorrow. cheers
