Not sure if the right forum, but here goes..

I'm looking at getting a pool table for my next house. Anyone know a good place to buy from?

Thanks

We got ours via Ebay, had to collect it but it was only 15 miles away!

Ex pub table couple of bits of trim missing and could really do with a new cloth but perfectly playable - bargain at £35.

Balls, cues and chalk cost more!

Word of warning - not only is the slate bed very heavy but so is the base and it's also very bulky.

we got an old pub one from an amusement maintenace firm, was in perfect condition and came with balls and cues £150.

Had it in the brew room at work, used it every day for a few months and then sold it on after a year. Got a punch bag now that gets a lot more use!

Got mine from Hubble and Freeman. They even put it upstairs for me!

Just an aside but a recent discovery of mine, and requiring a lot less space than a pool table, is bar billiards.

Great game, and you only need about 3' x 10' instead of about 10' x 14'.

The general rule is that you'll need a minimum of 4ft at each side of the table in order to play comfortably.

I shopped around for ages for mine trying to get the best deal and ended up paying around £600 for a new 7x4 supreme pool table, non coin operated, with custom cloth. Took a lot of haggling though, I think it started at around £1100.

Loads of different styles available, I wanted something a bit different but didn't want to spend a fortune. This comes apart quite nicely when necessary. I've had it about 7 years, it's as solid as the day I got it despite having been bashed through 5 house moves.

I did a load of phoning around, prices varied hugely, delivery dates/colour options too.

seems they're still available for a similar price, although they still seem to vary between £600 - £1000:

I looked at ex pub tables but the problems with damaged/warped slates, drinks having been spilt on them etc and the cost of a recloth coming in at c.£150 quickly put me off, it is worth baring in mind that they aren't easy to sell on and if a decent second hand one comes up via ebay/loot/gumtree you'll normally be looking at £150 or there abouts from what I've seen.

I bought a Verona table from Simply Pool and was extremely pleased with the service at the time and the quality of the table a few years down the line.

Just had a look at their website now though and it looks like they have made a right old hash of a redesign......
