Today my digger blow a fitting out of the oil filter housing

Its a steel threaded insert which was a press fit into the alloy.

Its no longer a press fit

So it needs to be oil and pressure tight

I tried leaded based solder and that did nothing

Brasing is too hot

So would silver soldering work?

If not would a good epoxy glue survive hot oil

well aircraft wings are held on with epoxy (well not quite, but not far off)

but for it be effective the surfaces have to be hygienically clean- in fact for ali you really want to be removing the oxide from the surface?

If you can get a bush machined and tapped and press that it it would be the best way of doing it, if not then a decent epoxy will hold it as said.

Drill and tap to suit an appropriate adaptor?

Im not so sure silver solder will work too well on cast alloy? Ive used it on plenty of stuff nut never cast alloy so cant say for deffinate.

problem with tapping is the casing is very very thin.

And it would be a big thread as the hole is maybe 15mm, unless i make up my own adaptor.

need to have a think if the silver soldering is out

Anything you can buy in B&Q up to the task in the way of glues etc?

As its the only place open on a sunday

Not aware that silver soldering will work on Ally.

Can you get at the hole from the inside?

Ive seen epoxy resin working as a temp measure but will start to weep at some point and eventually fail in my experience. Turn an alloy fitting and have it welded on?
