I am in the middle of re-doing my bathroom. Today I fitted the new shower and all is fine except when I turn it off there is massive water hammer on the hot feed. The pipes are reasonable well secured to the wall.

I have seen on TV (Holmes on Homes) installing lengths of copper above the shower feed pipe to give the water somewhere to escape to. I have heard also that this maybe against building regs in the UK? It is a moot point anyway as the pipe work is largely boxed in now.

I have seen mentioned some shock arrestors but these seemed to be mostly America and hence are imperial measurements. Does anyone know where I can get on to fit 15mm pipes?

Cheers

Here - http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Plumbing/Valves/Po...

Also on the page is a 1/2" x 15mm coupler.

You can't have a dead leg of potable water. I think 50mm is the maximum.

Near the tap that is causing the problem i.e. think of it as a second tap along the same bit of pipework.

I have found that turning the shower off slowly means I don't get any hammer.

Might be an easier option to do that than cut an access panel through the PB on the stairs to fit an arrester.
