Hi all. I need to run electrical cable across my driveway to power a gate motor (only 24v).

Rather than dig up the block paving (which I think is cemented down as it's the edging blocks) I was thinking of running the cable in some flat steel conduit.

I'm sure I've seen something like this at mcdonalds or somewhere where they've run cable on the road, but I cannot find it anywhere either on the web or in local stores.

Anyone know where to look, or even if it exists?

Try searching for steel trunking rather than conduit. Might throw up a few more results.

Cheers but the stuff I've seen somewhere was kind of like a flat (with a hump), but the steel stuff is the right strength I think

Flat, with a hump?

The round conduit ca be bent and formed into curves and bends, using the correct tools.

The trunking comes in various depths and you can get various fittings for corners, bends etc.

hi,
try searching for steel channeling or top hat as some tradesmen call it.

Are you wanting to permenantly have this metal capping on your drive? It's not going to look great...

Where abouts is the motor located, at the gate itself presumably? Can you run an armoured cable around the outside?

Cheers guys, I appreciate all the help.

I think the stuff I've seen is the galvanised steel capping. It's just going to run between the gates (between the pilars). I don't think it will look too bad if it's neat?
