2 way lighting circuit problem
Discussion
Morning all,
On a newly installed 2 way lighting circuit feeding a landing light, when the circuit is switched "on" at either of the two switches, 240 volts is present across the neutral/switched live feeding the landing light which illuminates. However, when either of the two switches are turned "off," 40 volts is still present across the neutral/switched live feeding the landing light.
In the above scenario, what is likely to be the cause?

Either " back feed" through the neutral - unbalanced current returning through the neutral from other fittings on the circuit.
Or a wiring fault somewhere.
Why has this been noticed? Flickering LEDs when switched off?
Cheers for the reply Or a wiring fault somewhere.

The only reason it was noticed was because I put a multimeter across the connections and discovered 40volts when the circuit is off. If I hadn't done that then nothing would have indicated the problem as the light turns on/off ok from both switches.
It is an LED light fitting. Even with the LED and transformer removed from the circuit, I still get the 40volt issue so its not the actual LED light and associated transformer etc. The circuit is fed by the upstairs lighting circuit from the consumer unit. I will measure the voltages across other light fittings on this circuit to see if they are effected, or if it is just on this new 2 way circuit.
Thanks for your help

Try turning all the other upstairs lights off and testing from the landing light again.
Are you getting any voltage between live and earth or neutral and earth when the light is switched off?
Just tested. Live to earth, 240v. Neutral to earth, nothing. Are you getting any voltage between live and earth or neutral and earth when the light is switched off?
Re checked new 2 way cct again. Between switched live and neutral there is 240v when either of two switches are on and other off. However, when cct is off, depending on where it is switched off (upstairs or downstairs switch), there is either 40v or 90v across switched live and Neutral.
All other fittings on upstairs lighting cct are off.

Could it be induced AC? in a 2 way circuit there is a fair amount of conductor that runs parallel to the line??
I wondered this myself, its using 3 core and earth so all the conductors run next to each other. However, I would of thought that 90v its too much for inductance? I've called a sparky that I know, he's going to have a look for ofPaulbav said:

I've called a sparky that I know, he's going to have a look for me during the week. I've checked all the wiring umpteen times and I can't find what's wrong with my limited knowledge, time for a pro
