Looking at a house with cast stone lintels and mullions.

The lintels have big weathering cracks to the corners and edges, the mullions are wonky and a chunk of the mullion is missing.

The house was built early 80's and walls are rendered. There's no evidence of cracking to the original render.

Are cast stone pieces normally load bearing in this configuration - how can I tell if they are or are not?

Cast Stone lintels etc. are normally made of reinforced concrete with a fine stone mix on exposed edges
This makes them loadbearing .... sounds like the ones you're looking at require investigation ..... could be DIY jobbies ...get a building surveyor or structural engineer to have a look

If they are load bearing then its likely that, just as regular concrete lintels they have steel reinforcement bars cast within them. If these have corroded it may have cracked the lintel.

However most cast-stone window heads within cavity wall construction are not true load bearing items and are supported by a steel lintel behind.
