Hi All,

Hope someone can help.

I'm after some plywood to construct a desk and shelving for my office, I want to use that two ply stuff that is often seen in shops/hotels/restaurants. so when you are looking at it end on, you can just see two different wood layers, one dark, one light, of equal thickness throughout.

A bit like this:

Idealy I would like 15mm 18mm and 25mm thickness choices.

Thanks in advance

Wickes & B&Q do interior 18mm ply at about £27 per 8'x4' sheet. Exterior hardwood ply also comes in thinner versions. Not seen any 25mm ply in either place.
Google '25mm plywood uk' for possible local stockists.

What you need is BIRCH ply, get it from Meyers Timber etc, and don't call it two ply because people won't know what you are talking about.

The ply in the photo is actually 7 ply, but as someone previously mentioned most shopfitters will use a birch plywood for an interior use, as its a non-durable specie and any exposure to moisture will make it go mouldy.

25mm thick panel will weigh a ton, especially in 2440 x 1220mm (or 8x4 in old money) and will probably cost you in the region of £60-80 per sheet. If you want good quality then stay away from Chinese produced panels, try and get a Russian or Finnish Birch panel, if someone offers you Chinese, walk-away!

I dont know if Meyer will sell just a couple of sheets, if the dont search for a company called James Latham, they have various depot's around the country. Dont dismiss using a good Far Eastern panel (Malaysian or Indonesian made) but once again if you are offered Chinese "Buyer Beware". The best place to look for a good Chinese panel is Travis Perkins, Jewson also stock good Far Eastern (Malaysian) panels and also Birch I believe, but not at all Branches.

Any questions, just ask and I will try to answer!

Thanks
