I've just swept the chimney for the first time myself.
We have a wood burning stove, hooked up to the original clay lined stack.

I got about half a Tesco's bag of soot/clinker out. Is this about right?
The fire is used in the evenings when it's cold from around 6 till 10pm. This is the first sweep in two years.

Sounds about right. Can vary a lot depending on the type of wood too.

I did mine yesterday in preparation for fitting a stove. Managed to get about 8 bin bags full of birds nests out of it, I doubt it had been swept in 20+ yrs.laugh

So I'd say a carrier bag full is good.

We did the chimney last time I was home at my folks. Managed to get one and a half buckets out, (based on a normal, round "pail.")

It's a good job we did, they would probably have had a chimney fire this winter if we hadn't.

They won't leave it as long again!
